Professional Disability Access Audits in Southampton
Creating an accessible environment is an important part of operating a safe, inclusive and legally compliant business. Poor accessibility can impact employees, customers, tenants and visitors, while also increasing the risk of complaints and non-compliance with the Equality Act 2010.
Southampton has a diverse mix of commercial and public buildings, from modern offices and retail developments to older converted properties, healthcare facilities and hospitality venues. Every building presents different accessibility challenges that should be carefully assessed.
At The HSRA, we carry out Disability Access Audits for businesses, landlords and organisations across Southampton and the wider Hampshire area, helping identify barriers to access and opportunities for improvement.
Our approach is practical and straightforward. We clearly identify accessibility issues, explain where improvements may be needed and provide realistic recommendations to help improve inclusivity and support legal compliance.
Who Needs a Disability Access Audit in Southampton?
Under the Equality Act 2010, businesses and service providers have a legal duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure disabled people are not placed at a disadvantage when accessing their premises or services.
If your building is used by employees, customers, tenants or members of the public, accessibility should be regularly assessed and reviewed to help maintain compliance and create an inclusive environment.
We regularly carry out Disability Access Audits in Southampton for:
- Business owners and employers
- Commercial property owners
- Landlords and property managers
- Healthcare providers and dental practices
- Schools, colleges and nurseries
- Hospitality and leisure businesses
- Care and supported living providers
- Public-facing organisations and facilities
Many organisations believe accessibility is only about providing wheelchair access. In reality, a Disability Access Audit considers a much broader range of factors, including entrances, signage, lighting, accessible facilities, hearing assistance systems and emergency evacuation arrangements, helping ensure your Southampton premises are welcoming and accessible for everyone.
Common Accessibility Issues We Find in Southampton Buildings
We regularly identify avoidable accessibility issues while carrying out Disability Access Audits across Southampton and the surrounding areas.
Some of the most common include stepped entrances without suitable alternatives, heavy manual doors, inadequate signage, inaccessible toilet facilities and emergency evacuation procedures that do not fully consider the needs of disabled employees, visitors or customers.
Older buildings throughout Southampton can often present additional accessibility challenges due to historic layouts, changes in floor levels and restricted access routes. In many cases, businesses are unaware of these barriers until a professional Disability Access Audit highlights areas where improvements can be made.

Good contact to say when they would arrive on site with information up front on what they would need to complete the risk assessments. Once received the risk assessments were easy to read and the 'to do' tasks were explained to ensure we remained compliant. Very competitively priced as well. Highly recommend.

Fantastic service - contacted last minute on Tuesday as needed some risk assessments carried out by today (Friday) for a regulatory inspection. Max arranged for an assessor to come to site this morning, first thing before the building got busy with staff and patients (we are an NHS premises). The assessor was polite, friendly, professional and helpful with useful suggestions. We were on a really tight deadline and the risk assessment reports were sent over well within the deadline, they look professional and thorough and only a couple of actions were highlighted (which we have already carried out). I have already recommended HSRA to several of my peers. Thank you

Using HSRA to do our Fire Risk Assessment was simple, we sent our address and within an hour we had a quote once their team checked the site on google maps. An Appointment was made for their surveyor to arrive and inspect the property. The Report arrived a couple of days later with a information for every part of the business including guidance on what to do in those areas that were not up to scratch. A big thanks to Max and his team at HSRA
